Cascina Canée
Cascina Canèe is surrounded by greenery on the hills of Angera, a town that dominates the Lombardy side of Lake Maggiore.
Angera is certainly a strategic place to visit the entire southern branch of Lake Maggiore. The village comes to life in summer due to the large number of tourists enjoying the amazing beauty of the lake.
Cascina Canée is located at the foot of the San Quirico hill, in a Lombard farmhouse renovated many years ago by Giovanna and Fabio, the owners. In the beginning, it served as a private house.
Now, this is a charming “boutique hotel” designed primarily for couples looking for gourmet stays or for a romantic and refined weekend on Lake Maggiore. In Cascina Canée, you can have dinner and take cooking lessons.
The house is very cozy and comfortable as the owners have perfectly combined the contemporary style with the ancient taste. At Cascina Canée you can breathe elegance, modernity and relaxation: the structure is located outside the city center, in the middle of nature, but still not far from the shores of Lake Maggiore. Although it stands on a hill outside the center of Angera, it is not far from the main street, bars, restaurants and shops.
The true gem is the large garden of more than 2000 square meters that surrounds the property and which offers a splendid panoramic view of the Rocca Borromea of Angera.
The story behind the Cascina Canée...
The name Cascina Canée has remained the same over the years: this was the name of the farmhouse with a barn that Giovanna and Fabio bought in 2003.
A stone ruin, invaded by nature, that after several years of work was turned into a large modern, welcoming and spacious house. The renovations were long and demanding also because Giovanna and Fabio asked for the help of local artisans who would maintain the existing structure intact, improving it.Therefore in the common areas and in the rooms there are visible stone walls, in memory of the original structure.
Giovanna and Fabio moved into the farm after it was completed.Over the course of their lives, they have traveled extensively in different parts of the world, both for work and for passion.
Their favorite places are two: Venice, where Giovanna was born and raised, and South Africa: together they lived for several years in Capetown, starting to work in the hospitality and hospitality sector. After several years spent between Italy and South Africa, with the outbreak of the pandemic, they decided to return to Angera, on Lake Maggiore, and to use a part of Cascina Canée for guests. In early June 2021, the facility officially opened its doors to travelers.
To welcome guests there are not only Giovanna and Fabio, but also Lola and Gina, two nice cuddly kittens.
The entrance to Cascina Canée opens onto two large spaces: the owners' kitchen and the main room dominated by large windows that offer a breathtaking panoramic view. In the room there is a loft with the owners' office, just where the barn of the farm was formerly located.
About the rooms at Cascina Canée
Cascina Canée was born as a “boutique hotel”. Giovanna and Fabio offer 4 double rooms each different from the others. In fact, the structure is the ideal location for couples looking for a romantic, intimate and reserved weekend. However, it is possible to stay longer to discover Lake Maggiore and the surrounding area.
The facility is also suitable for a group of friends who want to spend a weekend doing cooking lessons in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The rooms are spread over two floors and are of three different types, standard, superior and one suite.
All rooms have private access, preceded by a small lounge area with table and chairs, and a private bathroom with shower, hairdryer and courtesy kit with toiletries and towels.
Like the rest of the house, even in the bedrooms there are essential furnishings but well finished, where the modern design blends perfectly with the antique style. An example of this is the armchairs in the rooms that come from Venetian villas on the Riviera del Brenta or the antiques that have been restored in order to enhance their authenticity. Beside them you can find modern sanitary facilities and industrial-style lamps. The rooms are named after four wines (Chardonnay, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Moscato) and include a mini-bar.
The Dolcetto room is also located on the same level; in fact the Dolcetto and Nebbiolo rooms, while maintaining independent entrances, can be communicated and are perfect for groups of friends or couples of friends.
The Dolcetto room evokes the warm and sunny character of the Dolcetto wine: it is all wooden, with antique furniture and a wardrobe made with Italian doors of the 1700s. Even the bathroom has warm earth tones, designer accessories and a great masonry shower.
Upstairs you can find the Moscato and Chardonnay rooms. The Moscato room is the most intimate of the four with its large stone wall, antique furniture, some modern touches and the view of the San Quirico hill. In the bathroom there is a semi-circular shower, a large window and pieces of wrought iron. The Chardonnay room is the only suite, as precious and refined as the Chardonnay wine. It is the most spacious room and is characterized by a four-poster bed and a large bathroom with designer accessories and white gneiss finishes: in the bathroom there are both a mosaic shower and a romantic bathtub. From both bathroom windows you can enjoy the view of the hill of San Quirico.
As all rooms are named after a wine, guests are always offered a bottle of wine of the same name as the room as a gift. In addition, each room recalls the travels made by the owners: some furnishings come from distant travels such as Japan, India, Africa and Norway, while the paintings are part of their contemporary art collection.
Giovanna will be pleased to tell you about their history, origin and significance.

Because of this, they have chosen to share their large modern kitchen to offer guests the opportunity to attend cooking classes. The cooking school called “Cuscinée” offers courses (preferably in small groups and in any case upon reservation) for those who want to learn the art of good food, experiment with new recipes and have fun.
The goal is to work together, following the teachings of Fabio and Giovanna, to create dishes that can then be easily reproduced at home. Special attention is given to the choice of ingredients, preferably seasonal, preparation techniques and presentation.
At the end of the course, you can enjoy the dishes prepared during the lessons together on the large outdoor terrace with dinner with friends.
